This series explored Providence’s waterfront through observation, modelling, and ecological design.
The first workshop explored edge conditions and historical changes to the waterfront, building models to understand its evolution.
In the second session was at the RISD Nature Lab, they examined local coastal specimens and used sketching to consider design for more-than-human communities.
The final workshop synthesised work from previous workshops, focusing on co-habitat design strategies for the tidal ecologies of Providence, RI.
Workshop 1: Modelling River Edge Conditions

For the first workshop, we spent the afternoon at the Landscape Architecture Studio discussing waterfront edge conditions of Providence. The Green Team modelled common edge transects and we looked at archival images of how the waterfront has changed over time.
Workshop 2: Nature Lab

This workshop was held at the RISD Nature Lab. Green Team Youth observed specimens local to the coastal ecosystems of Narragansett Bay.
Through discussions and sketching activities, we learned about how we can design for more than human communities.
Workshop 3: Design for More than Human

The third and final workshop of the Winter series was focused around design for co-habitat with the local tidal ecologies found in Providence, RI.
